Disciples Peace Fellowship denounces the proposed budget for FY 2020 recently released by the Trump Administration. This budget demands $8.6 billion for a border wall, which would separate communities and destroy habitats, and increases military funding by 5% – more than what was originally requested by the Pentagon. The proposed budget also includes devastating cuts to domestic programs that support basic human rights, like Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, public education, the Environmental Protection Agency, and more. We will not achieve peace by building barriers and propping up weapons manufacturers. This budget itself, if enacted, would have a life-threatening impact on people all over the world.
